Evolution, Not the Fall

Biology has told us that there was no Fall, but rather that we evolved from earlier forms of life. Evolution actually explains a lot once we eliminate the myth of the Fall: the belief that we originated in a perfect paradise and, through our disobedience, caused the world to become broken and decaying.

It seems clear from evolution that, once life began, it began to evolve. And it seems that the main aim of evolution was to create consciousness. If we think of it as the growth of consciousness from a subconscious state through the higher consciousness of apes to that of humans, we begin to see a pattern.

This suggests that the purpose of the universe is to grow consciousness. And in order for consciousness to grow, there needed to be struggle. For resistance develops muscle, and it is suffering that develops character. And it is character that we need in order to transcend the human frame.

All we have to do is trace the evolution of consciousness. We start with proto-consciousness in plants, semi-consciousness in animals, higher consciousness in apes and primates, and ultimately humans. The next stage is God-consciousness. We are evolving into Ultimate Reality.
